Hidden Gem! Perfect for our family!
This lovely little house truly exceeded our expectations. After spending the first week of our spring break on the West coast we spent our last 3 nights at this Pahoa property and enjoyed every minute of it. My husband and I were travelling with our two children and my aunt. The house was a perfect size for us and was very clean, fresh and well kept. Awaiting our arrival was a delicious basket of fruit on the dining room table and ice in the freezer. Beth had outdone herself on presentation and we were very thankful for the gesture. We made use of the new laundry facilities with laundry soap provided. We were there during the second week of April and found that the ceiling fans in every room with windows open provided great air circulation and cooled the house off perfectly. My children loved their room and the sound of the frogs at night and I found that with the window closed the crocks were muffled sufficiently for sleep. The neighbourhood was quiet and felt very safe with only the occasional dog barking. The house was a great location for travelling to Volcano National Park, Hilo beaches, Zoo (kids loved that) and the very scenic HWY 132-137-130 loop. The Lava Tree State Monument is very close and well worth the stop as are many other scenic beaches along HWY 137. We had some very tasty fish at Pahoa Fresh Fish ( voted best fish and chips in our Lonely Planet guide) and dinner at Kaleo's Bar and Grill (also mentioned in Lonely Planet). We found whatever odds and ends we needed at the grocery store or Longs Drug Store in Pahoa. Beth was very friendly and helpful with our questions but never imposing. She responded to my emails promptly. We did have some lengthy traffic congestion driving back from Hilo to Pahoa during evening "rush hour" times on account of construction on a roundabout just as you enter Pahoa. Best to avoid those times of the day and hopefully that project will be competed soon. The only minor complaint about the house is that it would have been nice to have a queen sized bed instead of just a double bed in the master bedroom but the rooms themselves were beautiful and the beds comfortable. We would highly recommend this beautiful little oasis to anyone wanting to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city yet be in a great location to commute to various scenic locations. We most certainly would stay here again on our return but for a longer time next time. Excellent value!!! Thank you Beth and Victor
