The Pony Penthouse Was Perfect for Our Stay
My teenage daughter and I recently stayed at the Pony Penthouse, and it was terrific. There was more than enough room for the two of us, and I’d say it would be a perfect vacation base camp for a family with 2-3 kids, or for two couples. Its location is ideal for enjoying all that Basalt has to offer, and is just a 20 minute drive up 82 from Aspen and Snowmass. The 15’ ceilings and huge kitchen / dining / great room make the space feel enormous. It’s ideal for entertaining or just “spreading out” after a day of mountain activities. The blend of leather, wood and western appointments lend themselves to a feel of “laid back luxury.” Features like sliding barn doors, hand wrought iron hardware and a marble inlay game table give the Penthouse a collected feel, and my favorite piece was what may be the longest Chesterfield sofa west of the Continental Divide. It was so welcoming after a day of hiking the Maroon Bells. As a rider, my daughter particularly loved the original equestrian art. Very cool. My only concern prior to our stay was the location above the Brick Pony bar and grill. While the location is a large part of its charm, we’re not night owls, so I was a bit apprehensive about late night noise. Rest assured, it’s a non-issue. We stayed Friday through Tuesday, and even over the weekend the pub noise was no worse than a low background din, and it never disturbed our sleep. Moreover, what noise does emanate from the pub is mainly under the living area of the penthouse, which is towards the front of the unit, and is much less noticeable towards the rear, where the bedrooms are located. Finally, the owner could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Communication was terrific and logistics were a no-brainer. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend the Pony Penthouse and hope to return soon!
