Marrowstone Island Getaway - Loved It
When my folks came to town for two whole weeks, my wife and I decided that a long weekend getaway would go a long way to breaking up their stay. We took an afternoon ferry from Seattle, and in 40 short minutes found ourselves a world away. Andrea's home is an island retreat, right on the water, and wonderful in so many ways. My Dad and I spent a day kayaking around Mystery Bay, including drinking a beer on the dock, before heading back out. My Mom and wife spent the day in Port Townsend, before joining back up to eat the crab (yes, just one unfortunately) that my Dad and I trapped (license required for Dungeness). The rest of the days followed a similar and wonderful pattern ... including lots of coffee and eating. The bedroom overlooking the bay was simply fantastic in everyway. The morning view, the evening view, watching the boats come and go! The bed was comfortable, I tried it real quick, as my folks got this one! There is a great little detached cottage, that is simply lovely. I could image writing a great novel over a period of months there. It has bathroom, stove, shower, keyboard, sitting area, wood burning stove, etc. The pull out bed was ... well as comfy as those pull out beds are. The kitchen is great. The decks around the house outstanding. There is some much great wood in this home. The sitting areas great. There is a little sleeping day bed outside of the main bedroom that is comfy. There is a sleeping loft with a great sky light for looking at the stars. You can walk down the steep stairs, some 50 of these, down to the private waterfront. We did this a lot, pulling crab pots. I took a swim in the water, which was teeming with crabs, small fish, clams, mussels, and such. Chilly, but not too bad. Wear some shoes to not cut your feet. Great long weekend, loved the home.
