Lovely and quiet, well maintained and well stocked property.
We were looking for a relaxing week at the beach and we mostly got what we were looking for. I cannot complain about the anchor house at all. It is fully stocked with everything you might need. Very comfortable although the largest beds are full size. The mattresses were very comfortable as was the bedding. The kitchen had everything we could have needed including spices, cooking oils, flower and everything to make your favorite dishes. The garage downstairs had a ping-pong table and there were lots of outdoor games like Bocce. The house is out on a peninsula right by 2.5 miles of beach. It's a great walk and there's also about a 4 mile loop of very private roads if you want a nice bike ride. Also, when the tide is coming in there are trout to be caught in the bays and estuaries. Horseback riding is available on the same peninsula and if you book in advance you can take rides out onto the beach. You can also have kayaks delivered by many of the rental places in the area. This local beach is not great for swimming. Far too many shells and oyster beds. You pretty much cannot walk without shoes on without getting your feet cut up. There are excellent restaurants and shops in Beaufort (about a 20 minute drive). There are some restaurants within 10 minutes as well and if you go left out of the peninsula you head towards Hunting Island State Park. There's a great little sandwich shop on the left that offers a "Grilled Donut" that is a delectable sweet! Unfortunately for us, Hunting Island State Park was closed as they are still cleaning up from Hurricane Matthew. That is all supposed to be cleaned up by summer. We were told that the beach there is nice and sandy and better for swimming. If you bring a boat there are several launches within 20 minutes and lots of good fishing in the area but be aware that some of the bays are VERY shallow. Local knowledge and good charts is a must. I would highly recommend bringing hard core mosquito repellent even if you are just going outside to bring in the groceries. Also I would recommend the owners treat the property as there is some swampy mosquito breading grounds right next door. For golf lovers I definitely recommend the Sanctuary CC. Lovely layout and beautiful greens. TGC at Lady Smith the greens were pretty badly burnt. The waterfront in Beaufort is a nice evening stroll and a short distance from downtown is a 6 mile long biking and walking trail called "The Spanish Moss Trail".
Pet friendly home only 200 yards from the beach. Great quiet getaway.
