Oasis in Aberdeen
We spent 5 nights at this lovely historic register Craftsman style Home in Aberdeen. We couldn't have ordered a more wonderful host or a cleaner, more comfortable place to stay while participating in a combined carriage driving event at the Carolina Horse Park. On arrival Donna greeted us warmly and pointed out all of the features of this spacious house, plus all the provisions she had brought in to make our first overnight super easy. She had supplied us with muffins, juice, half & half, coffee cake, cookies, etc. No need to run out after a long day on the road with horses to find breakfast items for the morning. These goodies were all purchased from a lovely bakery/cafe just a couple of blocks from the house. This was a great introduction to a popular and delicious local business that we frequented several times during our visit. This thoughtfulness was typical of the way we were cared for by Donna during our entire stay. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and always asked if she could do anything to make us more comfortable. The house is exactly as represented in the photos on the Home Away site. The house has a good Wifi connection. There is also the possibility to stream programs to the TV, but we never turned it on. I assume it works. The two queen size beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of space for 4 adults and 2 dogs to spread out and cozy places to gather when we wanted. There is only 1 bathroom and, with our competition schedule, we did need to plan and negotiate who had priority, but this was a small issue. The house is very quiet even with someone living upstairs. I appreciated this as I am a pretty light sleeper and sensitive to sound. There is a train nearby, but as it was going through town, it was fairly slow moving and I didn't find it intrusive. I can't say enough good things about Donna and Tom. They welcomed us like family, took time to ask about how the competition was going and generally included us in their lives like neighbors. Our last evening was spent by the pool while Tom played guitar and entertained us with some of his music. Donna even checked in with us while we were on our way home to see if all was going smoothly and expressed concern for my daughter and her husband as they were making the long trek with the horses back to Massachusetts. We loved our stay with Donna and Tom and hope to be able to book there again.
