The house alone could be the vacation.
Set in the woods of Maine, upon walking in the house, you are immediately drawn to the deck overlooking the Union River. I could have spent all waking hours on the well furnished deck and been perfectly content. We rented this house for a family vacation- 3 generations. With 2 floors (each with a large living area and 2 spacious bedrooms with attached bathes on either end) the individual families had their own space if wanted. My grandkids chose the beach as their living area while the grown ups seemd to congregate at the breakfast table in the gourmet kitchen. Having rented homes before in different areas of the country, I can tell you that there are no bad surprises in this house. The house is in perfect condition and all you need to bring are groceries. Because of the noteworthy art and collected crafts in this house, you know that this is someone's very special home that they are welcoming you into. I feel like Ellen is my friend now. She was so helpful in planning the trip. Thank you so much Ellen! In the end, we needed a much longer stay since we didn't end up spending much time in the house. We spent a couple of days at Acadia National Park (about a 30-40 minute drive) and explored the nearby towns of Blue Hill , Ellsworth, and Deer Island. Not only would I highly recommend this property, I hope to return to it.
