Mollohan Castle review
When we saw this rental, we knew we needed to give it a try as it is definitely not your usual type of rental! It is most definitely a castle, complete with dungeon (accessible by trap door only!). I do have some comments to make that will help when deciding whether or not to rent. First, the owner (Dan) was incredibly nice and extremely accommodating. He was very responsive to all questions, and provided several recommendations of things to do around town. When we checked in, he provided us with a little history on the castle. The kitchen and living area are nicely set up, with plenty of room, and the patio is also nice - very spacious, and with awesome views. The main bedroom on the first floor has a lovely four-poster bed. There are up-to-date amenities, like cable TV and wifi. There are also trails through the mountains that are easily accessible from the property. That being said, there are a few nuances to point out. The bathroom on the main floor has a very nice old-style tub with a hand-held shower, but there is not a typical stand-up shower. The bathroom on the second floor has a small shower, but the stairs are quite steep and there is not a railing at the top, making it a little difficult for older guests. In addition, the murphy bed on the second floor opens over the stairwell, which means you can't get up the stairs when it is down. It is also a little nerve-racking when you are sleeping since part of one side of the bed is over the stair opening! The third bedroom is on the third floor, so you are "blocked" from getting to the main floor by the murphy bed, and it was also quite cold up there at night - even with the provided space heater (granted, it was unseasonably cool during our visit). I should point out that I asked several questions in advance of renting the property, and Dan was very straightforward in explaining all of these nuances. As the other reviewer commented, the description of the property is fair, and I felt the pricing of the rental was reasonable. None of the comments above distracted from our time in Tucson, we will definitely try to get back!
