Plenty of room and stars out in the desert but don't expect anything fancy
The pro's: remote location with a working hot tub with great views of the stars; a pool table; good layout (especially the separate adjacent bunkhouse where the young adults could sleep later than the rest of us); room for all of us to stay comfortably; plenty of blankets. The con's: shoddily constructed house with thin walls, some water damage on the ceilings, and old carpets; an oven that uses propane and left a gassy smell which we at first found alarming; dim lighting in the living/dining room. The owner was responsive to our need for assistance getting the water heater lit, but wish it had been working in the first place. Other things we would have liked to know: it's about a 15-minute drive from the Oasis Visitor Center at Joshua Tree NP. The water at the house (like a lot of water in the area) tastes pretty bad so recommend bringing your own or getting it at the Visitor Center. The kitchen has the basics (coffee pot, plates, flatware, a few pots and pans and baking dishes); but bring your own sharp knives and any fancy tools or appliances you might want. No wifi. There's a ping pong table as well as a pool table. There's an outdoor grill as well. The house was clean but worn.
