Positive recommendation for a single couple
Lilian and Eric were very pleasant and helpful hosts for our short 5-day stay for my husband's 50th Montclair high school reunion (they live above this apartment so very accessible). Bearing in mind this is a basement apartment in an old building in Union City, it still met all our needs. This apt. is affordable, very clean and cared for, comfortable furnishings, very small BR with small chest of drawers (free-standing closet outside BR) and extremely comfortable queen bed/pillows, big 50" TV in main room with all channels you could hope for. Kitchen area with small 2-person table is fully furnished to cook/serve (no dish washer-that was me!) but dish soap/hand and dish towels provided. Some extra nice touches were a can of ground coffee/sugar/creamer, and in the refrig. probably a dozen bottled waters. Bathroom was small but very clean, step-in shower, big fluffy white bath towels, hand towels and paper towels. Another nice extra touch was all the shower stuff you needed inside the one-person shower - body wash, shampoo, conditioners . A special perk for us was a nice, outside grill (which we used the one night we made dinner there), and if the weather had been a little warmer, we would have sat outside in a good-sized backyard with 2 umbrella tables. Washer/dryer was available across from the bathroom. Very important to us was our own parking space (for our rental car) in front of the building (no extra charge!). Plenty of brochures/maps and schedules for New York bus/ferry were provided under the TV. We had our own private entrance along the building side into the backyard patio area, all very well lit. The block area around the house was very clean and seemed very safe, being about a block from the police station, but we never felt unsafe. We drove about 20? minutes on our last day to Weehawken to take the ferry into NYC to visit the 911 Memorial and took the elevator 102 stories up into the Observation Tower - breathtaking and worth the wait in line! The 911 museum waiting line was about a quarter-mile long so not enough time to visit, unfortunately. This whole area is within walking distance of the ferry drop-off. I doubt we'll get back to NJ/NY for at least 2 years (this trip was a very special reunion event) but would definitely contact Lilian and Eric again if we schedule another area visit!
CLOSE TO NEW YORK CITY, AFFORDABLE STAY
