Large but needs some love.
I was tempted to put 3 stars for this property just because, given that it has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, it was a LOT of space for the rate we paid. However, considering the fairly large cleaning fee, we dropped it to two stars - mostly because this cleaning fee doesn't seem to be going to good use. Most surfaces were clean when we arrived, but we found it was best not to look carefully at the corners in the bathroom, there was old (furry!) soap in the showers, and we found dirty rags on the countertops left from the cleaning. This is a very simple townhouse with a great location, if you want to be near UCR and the hiking on nearby on the Box Springs Mtns. Bare bones is fine, and we were prepared for that, but unfortunately it had further problems. The house is underfurnished (there's one not-so-clean couch on the ground floor) and not very comfortable - beds are very cheap. There was a bare minimum of bed linens - thin sheets/blankets and no spares. We found exactly 3 towels for 3 people and a few hand cloths - no washcloths, no extras, no kitchen towels. Although you can sleep a crowd here, do not plan to cook for a crowd unless you bring pretty much everything with you. I think we counted a total of two bowls, a plate or two, a couple of spoons, and one cutting knife, one saucepan. We ended up using a lot of the camping equipment we happened to have with us, even just to make simple breakfasts. There's no real coffeemaker - critical if you travel with little kids! And no hot pads on top of no kitchen towels, so no way to handle hot items safely. Garbage cans were very small, even in the kitchen, and no garbage bags provided - we had to keep scavenging grocery bags and cans from other rooms! The bathrooms need updating - very small showers, upstairs bathroom is very dark and needs an update and deep clean badly. The townhomes in this complex are very dated and the pool, while clean, was pretty barren! Again, this is fine, but this is not an upscale development and it's important to keep doors locked. The house is close to the dumpsters. In short, not a very appealing spot. We knew we were renting a budget place, and many of the features we encountered - simple furnishings, dated, etc., we expected - but given that the house wasn't really clean or adequately equipped or furnished, we were disappointed. We had the sense it was meant to be a 'furnished' student rental that didn't rent, not really a HomeAway vacation rental.
