Unique and Amazing!
If you are looking for a truly unique experience THIS is the place you should stay! We live on Oahu so we've seen plenty of beaches and palm trees. For our vacation we really wanted to see things that are unique to the Big Island. Staying in a massive lava field was exactly what we were looking for! Being able to walk out on the lava and also walk out to a nearby area where the lava rock meets the ocean was one of the highlights of the entire trip. The area is very quiet and you can see tons of stars at night. Also, on a clear night you can see the glow of the volcano in the distance. Not many places offer you that! The house itself was beautiful, with great wood trim throughout it. It was also very clean and it was easy to sleep because of the quiet and intense darkness when the lights go out (you're in the middle of a lave field after all!). The owner and caretaker were both very responsive and sought to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. Even though "green living" takes some getting used to it was well worth it! Tips for your stay: Go to Volcanoes National Park AT NIGHT. If you see the volcano during the day it just looks like smoke coming out of a huge hole in the ground. If you see it at night it glows red and if you're lucky you can see the lava bubbling. Also, go snorkeling! There are many beaches that don't require much swimming or experience to see schools of fish and lots of sea turtles. Lastly, Mauna Kea is cold! If you go up, bring winter gear.
