Lovely base to explore RI and CT coasts
Lovely newly renovated spacious apartment with excellent attention to detail. It is a fabulous location from which to explore the Southern RI and Connecticut coastlines. We easily did a day in Newport, day in Block Island and a day exploring Watch Hill in Westerly and Mystic, Connecticut (only 15 mins away) as well as Stonington Village, just next door. If we weren't traveling with kids, we would have stopped at the many wineries we passed along the way. There is a small local supermarket within walking distance of the house, with a surprisingly good selection of fish, as well as a number of nice restaurants, some with live music. Of course the gorgeous RI beaches are within minutes and the house is fully stocked with everything you would need --equipment wise-- for a day at the beach. (Our kids were excited to get a picture in front of Taylor Swift's house on the beach in Watch Hill.) Clearly the home renovation has been a labor of love and because the owners are right upstairs, they were readily available for questions/assistance. The welcome was a warm one with a note on the door, many guide books to local activities, fresh dahlia's from the pretty new garden, and a bottle of wine. We slept 2 adults in big master bedroom and two teens in the office/guest room which has a double trundle bed, so sleeping arrangements were perfect for us. The kitchen had lots of new cooking equipment, but because we were only the second renters, some things are still needed; eg a broiler pan for the oven; and baking pans (to bake main course or dessert, etc.). There was a powerful AC in the kitchen/dining area, which meant turning up the TV volume if you were watching at the same time you wanted it on. The bedroom also had an AC. I would prefer fresh air, but the windows are old and apparently hard to open, so the AC was it. Probably not a bad thing though as the intersection in front of the house is very busy and there seemed to be constant stream of cars going by, which can be noisy if windows are open. Also the Smart TV was new to us; cable TV --even basic--would have been a plus. The owners are very accommodating so I expect they will respond accordingly to this feedback. We would stay here again.
