Charming Cottage, Wonderful Location, Excellent Stay
My husband and I spent five nights here. It was an excellent stay in every way. The cottage itself is bright and airy, clean and functional, and very quiet. The location can't be beat. NE Portland, especially the Alberta Street neighborhood, is lively and diverse and a joy to walk in. You can wander through block after block of adorable vintage houses. We used our rental car a few times, for example to drive into downtown Portland, but mostly we walked to nearby shops, parks and restaurants right in the Alberta Arts District. Very enjoyable! All of our contacts with the owner were friendly, professional, and timely. She made every effort to answer any questions we had and to insure that we had all we needed. NE Portland has a vibrant restaurant and craft brew scene. Bakeries, coffee shops, ethnic restaurants, art happenings, and unique shops line Alberta Street and Prescott Street. A few favorite spots: the Alberta Co-op Grocery on the corner of 15th & Alberta; Grain and Gristle on NE Prescott for tasty, casual, down-home dining; and for quilters & knitters, I recommend Modern Domestic, Bolt Fabric Boutique, and the Close Knit neighborhood yarn shop. We also had a fun evening watching improv at Curious Comedy Theater, which is a bit far to walk to, but well worth the drive.
