Charming place, good value
This is the second unit we rented at the Clarkdale lodge, and we enjoyed both. The units are relatively clean and very charming. It is an old building that has been and is being restored. The pros are that Anne the manager is very nice and attempts to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. The views are wonderful and the area is very quiet. The local main street, which is a block away from the building, shuts down at about 6pm, and the local activity is pretty much nill with the exception of people walking their dogs, or cars driving by. Dogs are welcome, which is a huge bonus. The view deck, which is a common area avail to all units, has amazing views and comfortable chairs, although in wet weather the seat cushions become saturated and may take several days to dry out. The kitchen stock varies by room. This particular room didn't have any measuring cups, salt or pepper, or small frying pan, whereas the other unit we stayed in did, so we were caught off guard on this second visit. Checking in and out is nice as the doors are fitted with digital locks and they email you the code near the check-in time, which means you don't have to see anyone when you arrive or depart. And parking is easy and close. Some of the cons are that the building is old and in mediocre repair. Several of the receptacles are worn our and what we plugged in would fall out. The configuration of rooms and amenities can be odd and inconvenient. The windows are original wood frame single pane double hung, which may or may not open. One had a fork jammed in the edge to lock it or something like that. The exterior second floor walkway had some soft spots. And the building is fairly thinly built, so once people in the other units start moving around, closing doors, and flushing toilets, it can be heard from other units. But even with the consideration of these cons, I still give this place 4 stars because of its overall charm, Anne, the views, the fact that it is pet friendly, and the reasonable price. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a place to stay with their pets.
