Cute house in a cute town, BUT...
The owner changed (increased) the cost of the original rental when she realized, after the fact, that the rental was during an event weekend. Furthermore, the house was not clean. We had to clean the front and back porches and steps and master bathroom before we could use them (When we complained, the owner did forgive our cleaning fee.) There was no room in the closets or refrigerator for our things; also the refrigerator was not clean. 3 towels were set out for our use. The topmost towel was threadbare, stained, torn and had a hole in it. The living room sofa was enmeshed by cobwebs. The promised barbecue and fire-pit were unusable. The water in the house is highly sulfated and smells like rotten eggs. We had to get bottled drinking water and bathing was not pleasant. Across the street is a grain elevator which ran a large and loud engine day and night. Loud dehumidifiers also run in the house's basement. The overall effect is very noisy inside and out. We would not recommend this rental unless it is substantially upgraded. We tremendously enjoyed the Apple Cider Century bike ride, main street antiques, Vickers movie house, Acorn theater and the Journeyman Distillery. We had great meals at the Greenbush in Sawyer, the Luna Cafe on the Red Arrow Highway, and the Bentwood restaurant in New Buffalo. We had a wonderful visit to Grand Mere State Park (marsh, lake, beach and dunes). Quite apart from the organized ride, bicycling around the town of 3 Oaks is wonderful with self-guided rides in every direction through beautiful contryside.
