We found home at Wheatley Cottages
In one's life, it's rare to find yourself truly feeling at home in a new place. This was one of those rare occasions. After an arduous day of traveling, we arrived at the cottage at 2am -- 12 hours later than expected -- only to find the lights on, the beds turned down, and a bottle of relief waiting for us. The next morning, not-so-bright and early, my mom and I woke up and wandered outside, only to find Brenda and Rick greeting us like we were old friends. It was at that moment that I knew that we had stumbled onto something special! From the first day to the last, Brenda, Rick and Laurie were warm, welcoming, and more than happy to fulfill any request we had - no matter how bizarre. The cottage was adorably quaint and rustic as well as clean from top to bottom. We had just about everything we needed so we never felt like we were roughing it. The river that runs along the property is wonderfully serene. There were many a morning where I would go and sit out on the dock in the paddleboat just listening to the birds and waiting for the bald eagle to come around. The swans upriver are quite a sight to behold ;) If you're looking for just another bed to lay your head and not be bothered by the owners, this could be your place. However, if you're looking for a new home with some old friends, I strongly recommend checking out Wheatley Cottages. You won't be disappointed. As far as places to check out nearby, I recommend the PEI Preserve Company for breakfast and tea. For fresh clams, mussels, and oysters, I recommend the Prince Edward Aqua Farms on Rte 20. For fresh canner lobsters, check out L&C Fisheries on Jollimore Drive. For a great beach, navigate your GPS to where Henry Craig Ln meets Eddie Murphy Rd. Thank you Brenda, Rick and Laurie for making our stay so enjoyable and, better yet, so memorable! I hope to make it back sometime soon!
