Great Family Vacation Stay in Hilton Head
My wife, 4 kids, and I had a wonderful spring break week in Hilton Head. The villa was located at Hilton Head Resorts (HHR), Bldg 4 - furthest from the beach on the 4th floor, conveniently off the main drag, William Hilton Parkway (WHP). This was our second VRBO experience and Anne was very in her e-mails and over the phone. She also promptly returned our $200 damage deposit after our stay. Don't underestimate the resort amenities (for example, we used the indoor heated pool and hot tub when it rained and the kids loved the tennis courts) and the villa amenities (tennis rackets, beach equipment/chairs, washer/dryer, 2 TVs, Wii, pots, pans, etc.). Our friends stayed down the street at the Island Links by Coral Resorts, which was very nice and new but we feel we got the best value at our 3 bedroom villa for the active vacation we had. Most of our time was spent on the beach... we did use the HHR boardwalk to the beach which was nice. The hoses at both ends of the HHR boardwalk were nice to de-sand the family and beach stuff. For a change in scenery, we packed up the beach gear and kids, took a right on WHP and within 3-5 minutes found different public beach access points and had fun in the sun. Although there is a bike shop at HHR, they did not seem to offer 3 day rentals.. only daily or weekly rentals. That doesn't matter, just call around... in early April, all bike shops had good deals and were willing to deliver and pick-up the bikes. One afternoon we biked across the HHR boardwalk along the beach (don't do this at high tide as the beach is much narrower and you are riding on the unpacked sand plus there are inlets that you will have to wade through the high ocean water). Another morning we took the Hilton Head bike pathway along WHP southwest to Pope Ave to get to the Coligny Plaza Shopping Center and had a light lunch. The kids bought tourist shirts at the Piggly Wiggly Coligny grocery store. For lunch, we mainly packed sandwiches and drinks for the beach. From a dinner perspective, Frosty Frog (at Coligny Plaza) and Crusty Crab stood out as the clear family favorites. The stay at the villa served as a central point for all of our fun. The 3 bedroom villa was the perfect size for our family of 6. Although the villa is on the fourth floor, the elevators were convenient... and HHR does have luggage carts to get your suitcases from your car to the villa room. The kids definitely want to go back to Hilton Head. Thanks Anne!
