A 5-star Oahu getaway -- and we're coming back
I'm a Hawaii local writing a review about this awesome vacation rental. I'm not saying that makes my review any more valid, but I say that for perspective. We're "townies", and we needed a stay-cation away from the hustle and bustle of our normal lives. So we packed our bags and headed out to Makaha. Now that I'm back home, I'm already trying to figure out the next time we can get back out there! This vacation rental was clean, and well kept just like a home. As soon as we opened the front, we were in love as our eyes went straight to the huge lanai and the spectacular view of the ocean, to the spacious interior and the well appointed kitchen. This was going to be home for us away from home, and the first impression was no disappointment. As soon as I opened the lanai doors, the sound and smell of the ocean hit me, and I knew this was going to be a good vacation! The large lanai provides views to the east and west along Makaha beach, so this means sunrise views (over the mountains) and of course sunset views. Bring your camera and have fun photographing both -- I sure did! The full-sized kitchen was wonderfully stocked with pans and dishes, and the kitchen counters provided ample eating area for our family. Here's a tip: before you arrive, hit the Costco in Kapolei and stock up. The full size refrigerator has plenty of room; the oven and stove can handily accommodate anything you want to cook up. Heck, I even took pleasure in the fact that the sink was large enough to make dish washing a breeze. The queen sized bed was comfortable, and the kids had no problem sleeping on the portable futons. And the HDTV/DVD combo player was a welcome addition, and kept our kids entertained after the sun went down. Makaha Beach is a haven for beach-going families, as well as surfers, but it's certainly not crowded by any means. Our kids had a blast playing in the break water, and the side benefit was that they slept like babies pretty much every night out of sheer exhaustion. Yay for all those quiet evenings with the wife with kids fast asleep, as we listened to the ocean and enjoyed those moments together with a bottle of wine. Life is good! We also visited the tide pools every morning, and the kids loved collecting sea shells, and spotting fish and other sea life. Our routine was to visit the tide pools in the morning, then hit Makaha Beach for the afternoon. I'll admit it -- I managed to sneak in a nap or two on the beach, and caught up a bit on my backlog of book
