Great family gathering place in a beautiful place with plenty of privacy
Located at the end of a row of houses, this is a great family gathering place that offers roomy and well-appointed gathering space as well as privacy, many amenities, kayaking from the dock, and good bird and dolphin watching in the surrounding water and wetlands. The large, open top floor of the house, with plenty of glass and a deck overlooking the ever-changing light of the sound and spectacular nightly sunsets, is a very comfortable space for large groups to spend time together. Members of the group who want a break from the action will appreciate that each bedroom has a private bathroom, and each bedroom floor has its own wet bar with refrigerator. The middle floor has a fairly comfortable sitting area; we felt that the lower level had room to add some comfortable upholstered seating and lamps in addition to the billiards and table and chairs there now. There is something for everyone in this house, and any elders or disabled in your group will appreciate the entry ramp, elevator, wide stairs, and wide hallways. The kitchen, with duplicate appliances and good circulation, is great for group meal preparation. A full-service grocery store is only 20 minutes away in Avon, and for those who favor a locally owned market with a better selection of gourmet ingredients, Connor's is just another 10 minutes south from there. A public access to the beach on the ocean side is a 10 minute walk from the house through a quiet neighborhood. The owner of this house is very gracious and responsive. He quickly addressed a problem with the hot tub by sending a repairman the next day. The house did, however, have a few problems that we consider minor compared to other large, fairly new houses in which we've stayed on the Outer Banks. We purchased light bulbs and batteries because there were no spares in the house to replace burned out bulbs or to re-supply remotes with dead or missing batteries. A couple of televisions worked properly only some of the time even after we implemented straightforward instructions from the owner. In the kitchen, the well-used cooktop had some functional issues, and the downdraft hood did not work at all, which caused those engaged in serious cooking some concern. These were relatively minor issues that would not prevent us from renting the house again. All in all, our family ranging in age from 9 to 90 greatly enjoyed our stay!
