The comforts of a home and the amenities of a family-friendly hotel
We just returned from a 2-night stay at the Newport Coast Villas... The property is very big and sprawling (a plus if you're desiring anonymity or don't like crowds), but easy to navigate. The location is the perfect "middle" between Balboa Island and the Pageant of the Masters, and it's a fairly easy walk to Crystal Cove Beach, too. Registration and checkout was easy/pleasant. Our condo was clean and comfortable, the kitchen was nicely stocked (a plus for us, as we like to cook...Trader Joes is conveniently close, too), and we enjoyed beautiful sunsets from the very private corner balcony. On the downside, the tap in the kitchen only produced warm water (no cold and no hot). The master bedroom/bath feels luxurious, however the bed was much too soft for my liking (translation... achy back), the water in the bathroom sink had a bad smell, and, (not a major complaint, but) the shower knobs/temperature selectors didn't seem to work right. The second bedroom, although nicely sized, was somewhat dark (it faces the parking lot side, not the ocean) and the worse part, there is a relatively loud hum coming from the closet (it appears to share a wall with the "storage room"). If you're a light sleeper, you might opt for the sofa in the living room (however, both sleeper sofas looked like they might be the originals that were purchased when the Marriott Villas were built, over 15 years ago, I think). The highlight was the friendly pool staff that run the poolside games for kids. Another plus... a parking garage with electrical outlets to plug in our EV (bring your own charger) at n/c! Overall, we had a pleasant stay. Hope the water issues and hum are addressed before next year's' Pageant! On a final note, if you are thinking of booking this condo and have questions, enter your email and contact the Vacation Club directly. Jennifer was very helpful and responded in a timely manner. The inquiry to VRBO was less successful.
