Nice Winter Retreat
The "Key to Paradise" home we rented met all of our needs. We were close enough to the towns and activities, but remote enough to be in a very quiet, peaceful area. This home was not on Deep Creek Lake nor did it have a view of the lake. There were a few issues we found with the house, but none of them really affected our stay. We very much liked the fireplace and hot tub, and the beds were comfortable. One thing to note is that the website said there were three Queen beds, but there was actually one King, one Queen, and one Full size bed, each located on a separate floor. However, this arrangement worked fine, since there was just four of us (me, my wife, and two grown daughters). There were also three full bathrooms, which was also very convenient. We found a winery near Friendsville, and there is a micro-brewery and restaurant, not far from the ski slope, that makes the best flat bread pizzas ever! Also, I'd highly recommend the Dutch's restaurant for a special night out. We ate there for Christmas Eve, and the atmosphere and seafood were outstanding! The Deep Creek area was a nice place for us all to meet to spend Christmas, and the house was cozy. They also had a huge flat screen TV in the family room that had a DVD player and Netflix and Amazon Prime access, so we were able to watch some great movies whenever we wanted. Just down the road from us was Swallow Falls State Park, which was a very good place to hike and view several water falls. We all enjoyed this trip, and look forward to another visit there in a future year.
