A great little place for mountain bikers
The Shop Apartment is pretty special. If you love the 18 Road Trail system but want a step up from camping, it's spectacular because it's so close. It's on the owners' farm, so the sensation when walking out the door is overwhelmingly rural. That might not be for everyone, but it certainly was for us. We found it peaceful and therapeutic and just generally really cool. The little patio out the front door is the perfect spot to sip a beer or bourbon and watch the sun set. The roosters at dawn were pretty awesome. The apartment itself is just right. It's close to the owners' house but private relative to it. The floorpan is great. It feels really spacious for not a ton of square footage -- there's lots of room to spread out and be comfortable. And it has a casual low-maintenance easiness about it. It's not trying to be luxurious, and it's not overly pristine -- both of which are perfect, because Fruita is a dusty, dirty place, and a muddy place in the spring, particularly if you are mountain bikers. It's just an easy place to be. And the owners Michael and Alicia are lovely. The place is great. We're reluctant to have the secret get out, because that means we'll have to share. We really love it, and we'll be back.
