Great home away from home!
All in all, we loved our stay at your home near Newland, NC. Our adult kids and teenage granddaughters LOVED exploring the creek and rocks behind the house. We had most everything we could have wanted in the house like dishwashing and clothes washing soaps, trash bags, bathroom toiletries and cleaning products. That is really nice of you and makes it seem more like a home - less like a rental. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very nicely decorated with antiques - we loved the quaint old fashioned style of the house. The beds were a little more firm that I like but we loved all of the rooms and the decor. While the kitchen is small, the bar area is great with plenty of countertop area. We loved the fireplace and appreciate the starter logs and wood provided. It was quite cool in the house on our first night so we built a fire. After that, we did not need one until the cold front came in on our last night. Then it was really appreciated! We didn't realize there was a fire pit (it was probably mentioned in our rental info but I didn't notice it) so we didn't bring hotdogs or marshmallows with us. We would have loved using that and would have had a great time. We could not find a tea pitcher to make tea and crystal light. We ended up using a cereal keeper we found under one of the cabinets. We had an issue with one of the kitchen dining chairs on our first night. One of the girls sat in it and it collapsed on her. She hit her head on the floor and was in a tangle of chair pieces. We put the chair back together as best we could and moved it to an out of the way place so it was not used again. And our granddaughter was okay. Perhaps they need to be stabilized a little more or replaced with something more sturdy. We all really felt that you need to do serious work on the driveway. There is no room to comfortably turn a vehicle around to go out the upper drive as requested by you and the lower drive was really slick. Then it rained for two days, then froze and snowed making getting out even harder. At least some gravel would have given us something other than slick mud and snow to get traction on to get our cars out. We made it but just barely. The last day we had to load the cars, drive them to the top of the hill then all of us had to walk up a snowy, muddy mess to get to our cars. The driveway is the only reason we gave you a 4* rating instead of a 5*. Again, thanks for letting us use your home. The Mardis Family 12/2016
