The perfect perch in Puna...for me.
This property was exactly as described and photographed. Gary does an excellent job of running a one unit Inn. The location was perfect for me as I am planning to move to the neighborhood upon retirement in a few years. So, this was a great spot to explore the immediate neighborhood from. And, after my three day stay here, I'm quite happy with my decision to buy a lot here two years ago. If I were visiting Puna for sightseeing I would still rate this as a good location - in that it is not far from Pahoa Town and local sights. Mostly though, a visit to the Puna district should be to relax and stay local and slow down. The location of Makana Kai across from Kahakai Park provided a lovely view. The surf on this part of the coast can be quite spectacular both visually and audibly. I was given quite a show while here at the end November. Gary provides a nice binder with information about the property and things to do in the area. I tried Boogie Woogie Pizza (the only pizza in the binder - there are others in town) in Pahoa. It beat anything back home. Pahoa town on Friday night is quite the hopping place - lots of interesting sights and sounds. Because of the stairs to multiple levels I would recommend this property cautiously. My 78 yr old mother would love this place - but for the steps. I look forward to returning.
