A humble desert gem
El Ranchito is, as the owners say "not the Ritz", but in my opinion, it may be better than the Ritz. If you prefer life's little luxuries, this place is for you. Nothing is fancy but everything is either just fine or pretty darn great. The screened-in porch is a fabulous place to get a little break from the sun, wind or bugs. The outdoor hammock is bliss. The jacuzzi is lovely, especially at night, under the canopy of stars. And the outdoor shower is delightful - private and piping hot water. The back patio is very pleasant and the gas grill (looks almost new) is great. Inside, the queen bed was very comfortable, kitchen is well equipped and enough space to spread out a bit. Wifi is strong. No TV or radio, but they have a monitor you can plug your computer into if needed. The AC seemed powerful, though I turned it off the moment I arrived - I like the heat! Views are fantastic - look at the map to get an idea of where the property is situated: practically the last house on the 29 Palms grid. It's about a 10" drive into the north entrance of Joshua Tree NP. If you like solace, you'll have plenty of it - nearest neighbors are about 1/4 mile away. Negatives (though not big ones): a bit dirty, as though housekeeping didn't do a thorough job, especially the indoor shower; windows and screens are showing their age and do not all secure closed. The owners are responsive and happy to provide suggestions for activities in the area.
