Seemed great but... Warning!
It all seemed so good. Perfect for our family holiday. We were supposed to stay for 1 week at this property, and all was set. We had a confirmation, we paid on time, we had the check-in details. But at the same day we were driving to the property, I started to call the advertiser to get in touch and finding out how to access the keys. No answer troughout the day. Arriving at 16.30 I was worried. I meet a neighbour at the house who also tried to help us to get in touch with both the advertiser and the owner of the house. No answer. Then a man came up to us, wondering what was going on, and told us he already was in the apartment, renting it for the same period of time as us! Around two hours later I received an e-mail from the advertiser saying that unfortunately the property wasn't available and that she had to cancel my reservation!! We had nowhere to go, many tousand of miles from home. She eventually managed to find us another apartment for the night (smaller, no parking, not enough bedlinen for the whole family). We accepted it for the night since we had nowhere else to go). We announced we were leaving for a hotel the next morning (didn't sleep at all that night out of worry). I told her that I wanted a refund of the payment and told her what my extra cost would be for the hotel and that she could pay it if she thought that it was fair as a compensation. The reply I got was "I have nothing to say about that, I am not paying any money back, you have to talk to HomeAway". So I did, I made a complaint but still I needed to solve the problem with the advertiser, and now she is not responding to my e-mails at all. 798 dollars for nothing. It was probaby just a mistake that caused this to happen from the start, a doublebooking. But WHY is she not responding, WHY is she not paying back the money? Mistakes can happen to anyone, the difference is how you solve them. Not only did I lose the money, but also time and still I am worried cause I can't see any solution. I feel angry, fooled and I want everyone thinking about renting from this advertiser to think twice before booking.
