Much more fun than staying in a hotel!
My 18 y/o daughter and I needed to be in Sacramento a week and decided to stay here instead of a hotel, because we like to build little adventures into our every day lives, and staying on a horse ranch sounded much more interesting than a hotel. The morning after arrival we visited with Lesa enough to feel comfortable and happy with each other. Because the cottage is outside town, in a rural area, I could feel myself relaxing as we drove "home" at the end of each busy day, and starting each morning with a hot cup of coffee while watching the horses and wild turkeys outside was so peaceful. The electric gate made it easy to come and go, and although we sometimes saw Lesa and Tim working around the property or feeding animals, we never felt "too close." As a mom and daughter traveling alone, I knew they were looking out for us, available to us, but also giving us our space. The neighborhood itself was lovely, and we walked/jogged without any concern. Lesa and Tim went above and beyond in many ways, and allowed us to have some Amazon packages shipped to their address in advance of our arrival, which we found inside the cottage when we got there. Lesa also let us help her feed the horses and llamas one afternoon, and we got to rub noses with the biggest horse I've ever seen. The cottage had almost everything we needed for the week's stay (we did have to go to a laundromat once, but it was close, clean and inexpensive). We went to Whole Foods and stocked up on fruit and prepared salad and healthy meals, so the B&B's fridge, microwave, and other kitchen supplies met all our associated needs. Staying at the cottage was a lot like staying in an RV in a state park, which my daughter and I are used to and love. It was quiet, there were big trees, wildlife, plenty of sky, and one early morning I even heard coyotes. The RV-style foot-pedal-flush toilet was a non-issue - it was the best RV type toilet I've ever used (maybe it's the kind in high-end RVs), and the shower was excellent. The only caution I have would be for anyone with difficulty climbing up/down a ladder, because the bed is in a large loft. We enjoyed the setup, but someone with bad knees or back might be uncomfortable. Overall, our stay was wonderful: the rural area, safe neighborhood, quiet property, comfortable cottage, ranch animals and wildlife, and best of all... the very friendly owners, Lesa and Tim. Thank you for making our stay in Sacramento such a pleasure!
