Large, Modern, Secluded Escape Near Yosemite
The house is large and nicely decorated: rustic, yet modern. Plenty of room and lots of amenities. We found the owner to be very helpful and everything was exactly as indicated in the description. And it was so peaceful here; overall we found it to be very comfortable. The house is about 8 miles from Mariposa, a nice, touristy town with lots of dining options. The house is fairly secluded but if you plan correctly, and buy food for meal preparation before you settle in, you'll find it's very convenient and comfortable (and cost-effective) to create your own meals. Everything you need is there (pots, pans, dishes, etc). Everything inside was clean and well-maintained. Yosemite is probably 30-40 very scenic miles away; but if you've looked around you'll know it's difficult to find accommodations closer to the park. We felt the price was very fair for all it had. RE: The local, nearby community pond; we went to the owner's recommendation at the Merced River for swimming and found it to be a far better option. If you are planning to visit Yosemite during the tourist season I have one recommendation: You might consider leaving the house around 6:30-7:00am. Someone in Mariposa told us to get to the park early and we were so happy that we did this. We were able to get in early enough that there weren't a lot of crowds. By mid-day, it was clear that 'Valley Floor' area of the park gets a lot more visitors than I've ever seen in a National Park. I would recommend driving up to the top of park at Glacier Point. It was less crowded. All the restaurants, lodges, etc. are in the Valley though. This house was a very pleasant option and we are happy to have stayed. Thank you.
