Comfortable house, a few things to keep in mind
The house was a perfect size (medium-sized), the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen well equipped, we experienced good customer service, and overall we enjoyed our stay. We enjoyed the nearby lake and pool and had a great day trip to the state park and Lake Alpine. There were a few things that made our stay less pleasant. The house does not have air conditioning and we were there during a major summer heat wave (mid 90's every day). We blasted fans in the windows but were still very uncomfortable during the afternoons and evenings (we got out of the house). There was little afternoon shade outside (probably less than there used to be) because many of the trees in Blue Lake Springs have died due to a beetle infestation that is attacking ponderosa pines. Every morning we heard the sound of chainsaws as the tree crews worked to remove enormous dead pines from the area, and there were tons of tree stumps and logs on the ground outside. Hopefully when the dead trees get cleared out the other ones will fill the gaps and the area will look beautiful again?? Of course the tree problem is not the fault of owner, but I do want people to be informed about what is going on in the area. Lastly, the front porch and back decks were old and creaky and it felt a little risky to be on them, especially with a toddler, who also could have easily fit through the rails. This was true for the rails inside as well. All in all, if we had stayed there during cooler temperatures without a toddler and without the tree work we probably would have been fine.
