Too Rural for My Wife
I totally vouch for all the positives everyone else has written: the cottage is beautiful, with gorgeous, wood-paneled high ceilings; antique furniture; comfortable tasteful decorations; a well-equipped complete kitchen, etc. It's BIG, spacious, light, airy, clean. Rose was a pleasure to deal with, very helpful, and she thoughtfully provided all sorts of little details. However..., the cottage is very isolated in the jungle, and there are small gaps around the (huge, beautiful, floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall, French) doors, so there are always a few insects flying around, and the geckos come and go as they please -- we counted up 6 on the walls inside when we arrived. Outside at night, it's pitch black jungle, with no signs of civilization, and just the sounds of coqui frogs. If you read this and think, "Cool!", then this is totally your place. You will LOVE it. But if you read my description and go "Eeek!" (as my wife would have), then you'd probably prefer the usual hotel/resort. Thank you, Rose -- I'm bummed my wife didn't like the place as much as I did -- maybe in a few years...
