Power outtage forced us out of our town...
DTE power outtage in the Ann Arbor area looked like it was going to go on for days and days.... what to do? Get on the cell phone and find somewhere to stay with my 80+-yr old parents for the weekend! HomeAway protocol does not allow you to book on its site with less than 24 hours notice, but they gave us the link to email the owner, Bill Rogers, who returned my frantic email within 20 minutes. Before the last of my cell phone power had run out, Bill had arranged for us to stay at his "Garden View Guest House." My, my, my... we had NO IDEA that Bad Fortune could turn into such Good Luck! We were greeted by a home with lots of lovely lights on, heated, clean, and with stacks of wood ready for the wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen is well-equipped (we brought a lot of stuff from our power-deprived refridgerator at home), so making dinner was a breeze. And we felt like King and Queen (and Princess) at the elegant dinningroom table. Beds were comfortable and towels were fluffy. We truly felt like we were staying in a close friend's home. Bill continued to be helpful throughout our stay. Sending over more wood for the fireplace, suggesting a brunch place and identifying plants in the garden when I asked (which looks like it is AWESOME in the summer!). I would highly (highly!) recommend a stay at the Garden View Guest House. We can't thank Bill enough for saving us from the cold and dark of a DTE power outtage in the middle of winter. Garden View Guest House was an oasis of comfort, warmth, and beauty. And the price was right too!
