Wonderful Mountain and Lake Getaway for Families & Groups!
We have had the pleasure of staying at the Yellow Dog several times. The place is not your standard rental. You can tell the owners went to great lengths to provide a cozy, homey feel with quality construction and amenities. It is truly a home away from home. The great room connects a large kitchen to a nice long kitchen table (seats 12?) and then continues on to the family room with couches and chairs. The kitchen island is large enough for 3 cooks and seated guests. It is really laid out well and still has plenty of space for the kids to run around. Each of the rooms is an en-suite with a private bathroom. The owner once again provides quality in the fixtures and the linens. We easily fit 3 couples and had 8 kids in the kids room but could add more. The 3 king size rooms have ample space for a folding bed (provided by the owners), play pen, etc. One of the biggest draws for our kids is the big room upstairs. It is essentially 2 rooms connected to each other. One room has 2 sets of bunk beds with another twin bed. The adjoining room has 2 additional beds and an ample play space with a TV. Both of those rooms share a large bathroom. They get their own space to hang out without having toys and games all over the house. During our last visit construction was completed on the garage which has a huge (heated!) loft above. I am not sure of the size of the bed but there is also a couch and desk with an accessible bathroom. Our kids have enjoyed the Yellow Dog in the winter and the summer alike. During the winter they literally sled right from the front yard, as there is a small grade. There is also a little kid sized (safe) zip line. Across the street on Pine is a large open meadow where they play football. During the winter we always snowboard at Bear Valley. We tube and snowshoe at the Village and there are great places along the highway for longer sledding runs. During the summer we take our kayaks and paddleboards to any of the neighboring lakes (Lake Alpine, Spicer, Elephant Rock). There is also a very close lake to town near Ace Hardware but I am not sure of the name. One of the nicest things about the location of this home as opposed to those in Blue Lake Springs is the proximity to town. You can literally walk to most of the restaurants in town, even in the winter! You are front and center for free music in the park and the 4th of July Parade. It is such a special place!
