Exceeded Expectations -- by a long shot
If you read this review, you will have already seen the picture of the house for this rental property, Aloha Lani. The picture of the house is magnificent -- lush vegetation, blue sky, 2-story house nestled in nature. The picture doesn't do justice to the reality of it. My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks. Aloha Lani far exceeded expectations. The house is neat, clean, private, and decorated in a simple but elegant style that greatly appealed to us. And Chad's craftsmanship in constructing and caring for the house is impressive. We have a tendency to notice small construction details, like paint work and joinery. Nothing was out of order. Impressive! As was Chad and Sue's hospitality. They were there if you needed them, and out of sight if you wanted to be alone. Our favorite room was the upstairs living room. It has a large TV that we never turned on. Instead we gazed for hours out of the 4 large windows. There is a beautifully framed view of the ocean in the distance. To put bodies in motion, we purchased a (rather expensive) pass for the large swimming pool at the next door Kalani Retreat, but got our money's worth because we went almost every morning and afternoon. Further afield, the tidepool snorkeling at Kapoho were perfect for amateurs like us. On our way home we would stop at the naturally heated tidepool at Ahalanui Park for more swimming while we warmed up. Walks along the ocean road (Kapoho-Kalapana Rd) were interspersed with swimming. We happen to love farmers' markets. To our delight, besides the famous Hilo market, there are many in the vicinity. Sue gave us a full list. The one at SPACE in nearby Seaview Estates especially surprised us for its size and quality. Our furthest adventures were to Hilo and to Volcano National Park (besides the drive to and from Kona to get to Chad and Sue's place). Even though we spent most of our time close to Aloha Lani, we collected plenty of information for future visits. Aloha Lani will be our base, because, to our delight, it exceeded expectations -- by a long shot.
