Peaceful Mountain Cabin Retreat
Everything went as planned and expected during the entire trip, starting with my first call to the owner, Jill, who was exceptionally helpful, chalk full of information, enthusiastic and responsive to calls and emails. Her cabin website is stunning, with pictures to preview in advance - in fact, that's what initally caught my attention and caused me to call and book that same day. So glad that's I did. We packed up, and headed out in our 4-wheel SUV (highly recommended during the Winter). My wife and I stayed over a long 4-day weekend. We wanted something peaceful, quiet, and private - with options to stay inside or go and about to explore. The weekend we went was preceded earlier in the week by inclement weather (snow), but Jill's detailed written instructions helped us be prepared and seamlessly navigate the appropriate route to the cabin. When we arrived, we found the cabin clean, cozy and quaint. It was nicely decorated, like it was someone's home. Everything we needed was either already in the cabin, or we had brought it with us. We played games, talked and ventured out to Spruce Pine on Sunday afternoon and mingled with the locals, eating at a Mexican restaurant called El Ranchero, where everyone was friendly. We explored Spruce Pine and surrounding areas, drove through the Little Switzerland tunnel, and stopped at a number of parkway overlooks to enjoy the beautiful views. But mostly, we just stayed at the cabin, talking, reading and relaxing. Our favorite "event" though was the jacuzzi, which was ready for use upon arrival. And as it was quite cold outside, being in the jacuzzi made for a nice and welcome contrast. One piece of advice - set some time aside to thoroughly read ALL of the many documents/instructions that Jill sends to you; be sure to print them all out and take them with you too. Plan ahead. Be prepared. Follow this advice and it will make for a successful trip! On Monday morning, when we started our drive down the mountain, I texted Jill once again, this time to thank her for making available a wonderful place for us to stay, and for being such a gracious and accommodating host. Her customer service skills were outstanding, and she seemed to really want us to enjoy ourselves as much as she does. I recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to experience a peaceful cabin retreat in the mountains, with plenty of options and activities for everyone.
