Middle Ridge Retreat was even better in person than in the photos and description. It is truly a retreat. In our eight days there, we found the home to be welcoming, spacious, nicely furnished, immaculate and comfortable. But the grounds take center stage -- beautiful stone patio, koi pond with waterfall (and the fish have personalities), an amazing array of trees and flowers and shrubs artfully arranged to please the eye, and open spaces for play or grabbing some sun. It's a private, quiet setting --- we didn't hear any boom boxes or sirens or traffic, just birds and falling water and wind in the trees. Indoors, the spacious bedrooms and elegant bathrooms have a spa-like feel. The kitchen is roomy and well equipped. We liked kicking back at the end of the day and watching a movie on the humongous HD television. This is the perfect place for people like us, who want to be away from the hubbub of city life. The ocean is a short drive away. And then it's a scenic jaunt up the coast to Mendocino and Fort Bragg for Cowlick ice cream, groceries at Harvest Market or dinner at a one-of-a-kind restaurant. Or, if it's wine you want, the retreat is close by the route to Anderson Valley, where we found some great pinot noirs and lots of other varietals to enjoy. Our hosts, Ron and Marilyn, were helpful and always responsive to questions. My husband and I have stayed in many VRBO homes over the years, and this was our favorite. Our dog, Leeloo, also loved the space -- she had five fenced acres to explore.
Beautiful home on 5 magnificently landscaped acres. Close to Mendocino
