Heritage Haven on Salt Spring Island
We thoroughly enjoyed our twelve day visit to Drake House in Ganges, Salt Spring Island in early March, 2016. Although the first week was cool and rainy, we were warm , cozy and comfortable in the lovely home, just minutes from the quaint little town of Ganges. We are big curling fans, so we spent much of the first week watching the Brier and in between games we would explore the many attractions and conveniences of the town. During the second week, our daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren ,who live in Vancouver, came for a visit. The house is so beautifully decorated and spacious, there was plenty of room for the whole family. We enjoyed cooking together in the huge, well equipped kitchen, playing cards and board games at the big kitchen table and reading and relaxing in the bright family room . Also during this week, we explored the rest of the island, hiking, kayaking and even watching the grandkids take a dip in the March water at Beddis Beach. Once the sun came out mid-week, we took advantage of the huge deck to sit and feel the warmth of the spring air arrive on Salt Spring. Although many of the galleries and shops that we might have wanted to visit were closed for the season, there were many that were open for us to enjoy. The little town has a beautiful library, Arts Centre, numerous cafes and bakeries and everything one would want for a pleasant visit. We have no hesitation recommending Drake House as the perfect get-away haven for a family of any size. It was our first time on the Island, but we will return. The hospitality of our hosts and of the townspeople was five star. Thanks for a memorable twelve days.
