Fun and quirky
We had an enjoyable stay at the Art Cottage. I was sorry we were there on a rainy weekend since it would have been nice to enjoy the lovely deck and garden more fully. The pictures are accurate - some updates and changes in furniture since the pictures were taken but otherwise they express the artsy and quirky character of the house nicely. We appreciated the care that went into every detail, with light switch plates and plug plates all being decorated, interesting art in each room, and all the vibrant colors. The kitchen was well-stocked for simple cooking, the bed comfortable, and furnishings practical enough in spite of the artistic flair. We were a little concerned about possible noise from the busy road out front, but the house is well-insulated against sound with the stucco wall that surrounds it, and the traffic settled pretty early at night so we found it quite a peaceful, quiet and private environment. The only minor complaints are practical ones: with the dark colors on the walls and the non-traditional light fixtures, the light inside is pretty dim on overcast days and at night so some more reading lamps would be appreciated. Some towel racks in the bathrooms rather than hooks would be helpful as towels didn't dry overnight. The place could also use a really good cleaning - all surfaces were generally clean, but the out of the way places had an accumulation of dust and grit that shows that deep cleaning hasn't happened in a while. None of these were problematic enough to limit the rating I would give as the property is overall quite wonderful and we would be happy to stay there again.
This house has juju!
