Peace in the Mountains!
My family (wife, daughter (15), son (11), had a wonderful stay at this property over the long memorial day weekend. The big positives - and there were many: The price was right. Crazy good deal for 3BR/3BA and dog friendly on a holiday weekend. Beautiful interior. We opened the door and said 'Wow" Main living area was tastefully upgraded, well maintained, and contained everything we needed for the long weekend. The WFI and Netflix were a must for my typical 15 year old! Perfect for chilling out after a long day of hiking. There is fishing / exploring right UNDER the back deck! Perfect for my 11 year old son. Bring a pole if you go. If you walk the stream there is a late harvest trout pond a 1/4 mile away. Awesome walk and fun to explore. All the beds were soft and comfy. Quiet, Quiet, Quiet - nothing but the sound of the stream. I sat for hours on the deck all 3 nights just drinking wine and staring into the dark! Awesome. There are houses next door - but they were empty with both appearing to be possibly for sale. Had the area to ourselves. Fred's General store is awesome. They have everything you need including a great breakfast. As a result we spent more money there than anywhere else all weekend! As for cell coverage, it was surprisingly OK buried in the mountains! AT+T worked on the deck and in the driveway but not in the house. Oh well! Deer where everywhere. Made it fun (though my dog got a little too excited about them a few times) To show that I am an honest reviewer. Here are the minor negatives: Front Exterior is nothing special. It's an older property in an older area. Not overly attractive out front. Bedrooms and baths were not very updated (but clean and adequate as mentioned) Had to shut down and reset wfi to get it to work. Not hard. But guessing some people don't understand that when stuff like that doesn't work right way, just turn off and turn on. Beech Mountain is REALLY up in the hills. Steep drive up from Banner Elk. Fine in the summer with a FWD minivan. But 4WD and or chains would be an ABSOLUTE MUST in the winter. Food choices in Beech Mountain are not very good! (you don't come here for the food!) And while Fast Eddie is a nice guy (met him as we waited for food), he and his crew were no where close to fast! (food was actually decent once it came out!) Yes, you need to drop off your own garbage (but you pass the drop off place in center of town when you leave!! And Christy, the owner was great to deal with!
