Diamond in the rough
The cottage and the hosts: I just rented the cottage for 9 days. It is a very nice home away from home. Craig and Kim were very welcoming and friendly. Every time either prior to the rental and while renting I had a question (even when, by accident, I tried to remodel their bathroom); they would answer me promptly. Travelling as a single woman; I try to be careful as much as I can. Having had contact with them over the phone prior to the rental and having them welcoming me so warmly to show me the cottage put me at ease. The cottage was spotless. The bed (I only used 1- but assume the other is the same) was so comfortable. I have to get a set of these 100% microfiber sheets. The cottage is fully furnished, the kitchen and bathroom are fully loaded which includes towels and sheets and anything you need all the way to the toilet paper. They also have full cable and DVR in both the living room and the bedroom. Helpful on a rainy day or a sleepless night and pretty much as explained in the description of the cottage. The area: The cottage is situated in a sleepy lake town; mostly a retired community and vacation homes. It is located on a corner lot. Weekdays are peaceful and quiet. On week-ends these ATV’s roar their engines; golf carts as well. So if you a fan of these... it is the perfect location. You might want to watch the kids/dogs. The only driver that really stopped was the … school bus driver on weekdays of course. LOL. The neighbors are so friendly. One day we had a power outage for about 3 some hours and the across neighbor brought me 2 camping flash light. I thought it was so sweet and thoughtful of him. Personally I am a hiker. I just love to go get lost in the woods. I found a few great foot trails. All of which are short driving distance of the cottage. Now getting around has been the real issue. So a good map of the area is a must; unless you have a monster truck that can take dirt roads which they start and end without senses or regulations. Roads changed names and numbers depending on the county you are in. They are paved then become dirt and paved again. I couldn't ask the deers... I am sure they would have helped me better that the map I was using. All over for me a + 10 experience. I will rent that cottage again in a flash. The only thing I found in need of was a bit of info of the area, a real good map and maybe a list of things in town which are available in the Oscoda travel guide and the chamber of commerce.
