Terrible, Dreadful, Dingy
When we arrived at 9 PM, after travelling all day the entry code did not work. While standing outside with our skis and luggage, we called the emergency phone number and were told that the owner did not inform anyone of our arrival. Eventually we were given an access code and got in. We were promised the place would be ready by 4 PM. Upon entering we found it had not been cleaned. Smelly remnants of the previous occupants remained. The maintenance person came and did a quick, superficial clean up. Unfortunately, after he left the unit remained dirty. Layers of dust coated the window coverings, floors and many other surfaces. He left bleach in the toilet and closed the door advising us to keep the door closed to manage the smell. I asked him to specifically clean areas that appeared to be neglected for months. The outdoor grill was covered in grease and food remnants, not only on the grills, but also on the controls and shelves. The grill brush was unusable, so I was unable to even clean it myself. The maintenance person promised to deliver another grill brush, but he did not do so until 2 days later when called again to "remind" him. He also promised to refill the nearly empty propane tank and the fully empty spare tank, which he never did during our stay. We did not use the BBQ for fear of running out of gas. The stove grills were also filthy, requiring us to do the cleaning before use. The upstairs toilet did not flush properly and could not be used without fear of it overflowing. The downstairs toilet was the only one available to us until the owner realized she had to replace the toilet. She did this toward the end of our stay. We were advised that it had been slow to drain for some time but could still be used. We were not willing to take that chance after it filled to the very brim on the final flush we risked. The heating unit on the main floor was faulty during the entire stay and failed totally on day 4 making for a very cold morning. Yes, it was repaired later that day. The furniture in the place is awful. Two single rattan chairs, a thinly padded futon and a small tub chair provide little comfort. When I appealed to the owner to provide some compensation for all the issues she offered $40, but then told us that we owed her $35 for not putting the sheets in the washing machine on departure. Ironically, the rational for this on the website is “next scheduled guests will be upset if the place is not ready”. Dreadful.
