Not for Those Seeking Privacy
I've been staying on this side of the island for several years and this is the third place I've stayed in Kailua through vrbo.com. The unit was clean and convenient to the beach. The hosts were friendly. If you are looking for a good family to give you suggestions on your first trip to Kailua, this might be a good choice. But this is not somewhere you should go for privacy of any sort. There is a door in the studio that adjoins with the main house and it is easy to hear everything the host family is doing and saying. There is also no restroom door, which is directly next to the kitchen area. Unless you are very comfortable with your travel companions, it is likely to be uncomfortable at times. There is a washer/dryer on-site as mentioned, but upon arrival we discovered we had to ask permission to use it from the other renters who occupied the unit next to us. It was awkward. And finally, the parking situation was not ideal. The host asked us to park inside the yard wall to protect our vehicle from vandalism which we appreciated. But again, it was a shared situation with the neighbors, so we frequently had to rotate cars between our two units. It was a good price and convenient to everything in Kailua/Lanikai so we managed, but if we had it to do over again, we would spend a little more and stay elsewhere in the area.
Great Value + Great Location= Great Vacation!
