Spring holiday--mother and son
This victorian apartment in NoPa is lovely! My 18 year old son and I stayed for 11 days while we explored the city mostly on foot or by using the CityPass (7 days of Muni buses, cable cars and includes entry into 5 attractions---all for $69!) The apartment is close to several bus routes, making it a pleasure to get around. Muni buses also accept $2 in bills which is convienient for occasional rides. As well as attractive decor and beautiful views out the large windows, the apartment was as well equipped as described---there were even travel guides for both San Fran and the California coast. As for activities in the area some of the hits with my son and I were: Yoshis Jazz club---5 blocks away--we enjoyed the Wednesday session with an open jam after the first set, the Exploratorium--allow a few hours for this one, Golden Gate park--we had a great bike ride to the beach with wonderful dunes). I also walked over to Alamo Square early one evening to see the Painted Ladies Victorian houses in the glow of the late afternoon sun. It was convienient to have parking included as we rented a car for a couple of days. Worth visiting if you can drive: Muir woods--a magical experience! My son actually pointed out a rare spotted owl in flight! We also immensely enjoyed our road trip down the coast taking in the breathtaking scenery, whales spouting and seal lions barking from their rocky basking spots. Despite being somewhat limited to an 18 year old's taste, we found some great takeouts---I liked LittleStar Pizza on Divisidero for the cornmeal deepdish crust, Bruno's Pizza and Restaurant was yummy with more than just pizza, and Wild Pepper Chinese takeout--great food and very reasonable.
