Condo smells like mould, manager kept our damage deposit
The property was extremely sub par. We chose it because it seemed to be a good value. My wife is fairly sensitive to smoke and mould smells and she complained of an itchy throat for the first couple nights of our stay. You can certainly tell that there is by the smell when you walk in. The master bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable and almost un-sleepable for us. The view from the suite is the parking lot of a storage locker. The parking was a bit of a walk, but appeared fairly secure as long as you're not put off by the random derelict vehicles that seem to have been abandoned there. On the plus side there's a great selection of VHS movies for the TV from 1992, and some equally old romance books for your pleasure. All of this was tolerable because the price was good and we spent most of the day out doing things. When we left the manager kept 75% of our damage deposit. He claimed the following things: 1. We overloaded the dishwasher. The dishwasher was crap and couldn't get any amount of plates clean. 2. Our baby had an accident in the bed and required extra cleaning and the mattress pad replaced. We brought a crib our baby was in diapers. No one slept in that bed. 3. There was makeup on the towels. Towels have to be washed regardless if there is makeup on them. 4. We hung blankets on the bedroom windows to darken the room - apparently this is against the rules and we were charged for it. 5. There was some type of food mess on the couch. Fair enough, but thats what the cleaning fee is supposed to cover. 6. My wife replaced a pillowcase because she brought her own and apparently lost the one there. What's a pillowcase from 1985 worth? $10 max? I appealed this to the manager and asked him to provide photos of the "stains" but didn't receive anything back. I ended up getting a few dollars back but they still kept over half for nothing! We swept the floors and made sure all the dishes we clean. It was borderline cleaner when we left than when we showed up. My opinion is that the property manager and cleaner make extra by keeping damage deposits. Buyer beware!
