Christmas 2013 in Kona
Our family of five (all adults) stayed at this home for one week over Christmas, 2013. There were no surprises, we had a great stay and it's probably a matter of time until we come back. This home is in a semi-private residential area with gated access. It's several miles from what we would call "central Kona". It's about a similar distance to the Keahou area. It's about a 1 mile walk to Alii Drive and the ocean front through the residential neighborhood. It's also about a 1 mile walk to the nearest restaurant. There is a bit of an ocean view from the front door however the ocean view is very nice from the gazebo that sits atop of the hill in the back yard. The gazebo area was thoughtfully appointed with comfortable chairs and cushions. We watched the sunsets from the gazebo almost every evening. The sunsets did not disappoint. This home features a private pool which we used extensively. There were plenty of lounge chairs to complement the pool area. The patio area also includes a nice BBQ and covered outdoor table which comfortably seats six and could accommodate more. We used the BBQ almost every evening. We also ate outdoors under the covered patio every evening we were "at home". The home has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The master suite is on one side of the house and the other bedrooms / bathrooms are on the other side. This might be an issue for families with small children. There are no steps or stairs to negotiate except for the single step into and out of the house. Access to the pool area entails just a few short steps. The gazebo area could be too difficult for a handicapped person to access. The owner was very engaged and always accessible via telephone and email to answer any questions. She provided us with extensive and useful information about the home and the area in advance of our stay. She did her best to accommodate our travel schedules with respect to her rental obligations. There are really no negatives to report. The pool is not particularly large nor deep but it was fine with us. Be advised that a car is pretty much a must-have for staying here. Thanks again for a great stay.
