Great Stay ~ Ideal Location
In conversations with hosts Maria & Jay, and in the very specific and detailed information they provide in the apartment, it was expressed to me that the transportation to & from NYC "could not be easier" and you "can't get lost!"... I am happy to report in this review, that was not an exaggeration! (I suppose I should not have been surprised by that, but I always think people are probably sugar-coating things like that.) Every time we made the short, one block walk to the stop the bus was either already there or just pulling up - same thing every time we were ready to return from the NY Times building to go back to Weehawken. Yes, the "chicken buses" are a real thing! (And I think it is reasonable to be surprised by that because you can't find any info on Google about them or the route, or the schedule, or anything! How is that possible?!) That's what makes this location so awesome.. you have instant access to Manhattan without the Manhattan price tag. Plus you get the added bonus of experiencing what it's like to be part of the "bridge & tunnel" brigade! :) And, not for nothin', the apartment is adorable and clean, and feels totally safe, and is even amazingly quiet! There's even a little bodega conveniently across the corner where you can get breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the morning! The only glitch in our otherwise ideal trip was that we were using a friend's car (so that we could get to her wedding that was off the beaten path), and the previous guest at the Gatehouse had taken the only available parking pass with them. :( But Maria & Jay let us park at their place four blocks away until they replaced it and then even moved the car for us into a nearby space the next morning. So they definitely took care of the problem even though it wasn't their fault. And fortunately because of the buses we only had to park the car ourselves once, because that part was challenging. I was so worried I was going to park in the wrong place and get my friend's car towed because it's kind of hard to tell - fortunately the car was still there in the morning. So my strong advice is if you are staying here just to go to NY, do NOT rent a car! Take an uber from the airport then just ride the bus.. it couldn't be easier and you can't get lost! :) I also strongly advise staying at the Gatehouse Apartment - you won't regret it! ~g
