Great place for youg kids, fantastic neighborhoods
My wife, i and our two kids (both under the age of two) stayed here for a week. Neighborhood: We already were from New York so already knew the neighborhood, but even if you were here for the first time, you'd realize how great a neighborhood (Fort Greene) this property is located in. There's a very conveniently located mall with a Target center in it located a 10 minute walk away and a 24 hour organic convenience store located across the street. As with most of NYC and in particular downtown brooklyn, parking is difficult if you have a car, but if you are a walker, biker, or public transit person, this location has it all (there are citi bikes rentals just a block away). Also, access to the LIRR 10 minutes away is great because you can take that directly out to JFK very easily, so it was very accessible for us when leaving. Apart from the convenience, Fort Green is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the U.S. It has great character and a great park a few blocks away that we took our girls to, and great restaurants. Property: First off, the hosts were great in terms of providing detailed instructions and letting us know what to expect. They have two young kids as well, so the place is really ideal and set up for people with toddlers and babies. As with any brownstone, there's a lot of walking up and down the steps, so if you have issues doing a lot of stair movement, just keep that in mind. The hosts let us use everything they had for their own kids and had a great array of toys and entertainment for our daughter. The top floor is very well lit because of the skylights and had a lot of original features from the home, which is probably nearly 100 years old but has been nicely renovated. The only thing thati would point out as a potential concern for some folks are that there are two very friendly cats who live there, but if you have allergies, beware. They are really nice, but sometimes you'd find them in unexpected places (it is there home after all) such as on the seat of the kitchen table. Not a big deal for me, but my wife is kinda iffy about cats. There is an au pair that comes by to take care of them, so you won’t need to do any of that maintenance, so that’s good. Overall, this was a great location with great hosts. It’s good for families but might not be ideal for older folks who might not want to constantly go up and down three floors.
