Affordable getaway tucked away in the woods
I had never stayed in Guerneville prior to this trip. This is a bit of a bohemian community and Kathy and Jim's place is no exception. The cottage is tucked away under some redwood trees at the edge of their property. The unit is clean, furnishings are nice, and the bed was exceptional. While they live on the property as well (main house), I went two days without seeing a soul so it is quite private. There is a nice hot tub that is always "on" and I took advantage of that on a couple of nights. There are plenty of places to eat and drink locally. The weather in this area is exceptionally moderate; unlike Bodega Bay where I encountered gale force winds off the ocean. It is located in a residential community but it didn't feel like other homes were on top of me. There is plenty of off street parking. The location is away from the main street area of Guerneville by a mile or so; far enough to avoid traffic, crowds, and noise. Kathy and Jim are exceptionally nice people; available if needed but not intrusive. I envisioned that this property is where Neil Young would have lived had he not become rich and famous. The only issue I had was with the wifi; it is quite strong in some areas of the property but not very strong in the cottage. Also, if you have ATT cellular, don't plan on making any calls. Zero bars here and in much of Guerneville.
