Amazing view, comfortable home -- but be careful on those roads!
We enjoyed a nice weekend in this home. It's comfortable, well-stocked and beautifully situated (that view is even more breathtaking in person!) The problem was getting to it. Some time after our reservation was made, the owner sent an email with information about accessing the property, including a recommendation that we arrive in a vehicle with four-wheel drive. She indicated that some standard cars have made it up the gravel mountain road without incident, but some people rent a 4WD just for that purpose. This would have been great to know during the budgeting phase of our vacation planning, instead of after the reservation was made. Fortunately, one member of our party did have a 4WD vehicle, and was able to rescue the rest of us when a Mazda 5 lost its battle with the gravel about 20 minutes into the climb. (And this was a sunny July weekend -- no rain or ice to deal with.) Once we arrived safely at the cabin, we were rewarded with an incredible view and a clean, inviting hot tub where we could sit back and enjoy it. The kitchen was well-stocked for food preparation and dining, with a roomy table for enjoying a nice meal. The living room was comfortable and nicely arranged for enjoying each other's company along with the mountain view. Some minor complaints that came up among the group: - The wifi password wasn't clearly displayed anywhere (but the owner did get back to us quickly when we called to ask). - There were only four wine glasses, of varying sizes, in the cabinet. - The access instructions included a stern warning that pushing the wrong buttons on the TV remote could disable the DISH network service, resulting in an additional fee ... but there were no clear directions on what the right buttons were. - The mattresses on the twin beds upstairs are covered in plastic, which guests found uncomfortable and noisy for sleeping. - A clock in the living room plays bird calls, very loudly, at the top of every hour. This was startling during waking hours and intolerable at night. We finally climbed up on a chair to mute it via a switch on the back. All in all, it was a comfortable, enjoyable stay with a view that we'll never forget. If you are prepared for an adventurous drive on the way, you will certainly not be disappointed in the destination!
