Comfortable, relaxing mountain cabin
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Mt. Elwell cabin for the Father's Day weekend. The cabin is beautifully appointed and clean, with plenty of room for our extended family of 4 adults and 2 children. Inside is comfortable and cozy, with a wood stove and several areas for curling up with a good book when it was cool and breezy on our first day. There is a nice flow to the outside space, including a shady patio in the front and a sunny deck in the back overlooking the Feather River, with adirondack chairs which were perfect for outside lounging on our second day when it was sunny and warm. Beautiful views from both inside and outside toward the Feather River canyon and Sierra peaks, with amazing sunsets to top it off. Easy access down to the river and throughout the serene, forested property with numerous sitting areas surrounded by natural beauty. Rich and Janet are wonderful hosts, very welcoming and with a wealth of local knowledge. Among the high points of the weekend were 2 of their recommendations: hiking to a waterfall in Plumas-Eureka State Park, and floating down the Feather on their rafts (with several invigorating rapids for some excitement). Nearby towns of Blairsden, Graeagle, and Portola all offer their unique charms--we recommend the train museum in Portola, and the bakery in Blairsden for delicious pastries and fresh sourdough bread. Overall this is an amazing property surrounded by limitless outdoor possibilities. We will definitely recommend this to our friends, and look forward to returning for summer mountain biking, winter cross country skiing, or seeing the brilliant aspen foliage in the Autumn.
