Perfect cabin, fantastic view, wonder week!
This cabin is brand new, very clean and well maintained. Nicely decorated but not overly done. We loved the beautiful copper sinks and I want a shower with a pebble floor at home now! The view of the mountains from the great room and the deck was mesmerizing. Watching the clouds and the mist coming and going in the valley could hypnotize us for hours of relaxation. You could hear a little noise from the road and the neighbors down the hill occasionally, but the trees screen the view of the houses so you feel like you're far away from everyone. We're birdwatchers and the active bird life in May was wonderful. My first Whip-poor-will called for hours right off the deck at night. The deer were shy but came to the salt lick several mornings. The communication with the owner was very easy and friendly. A worker was scheduled and she let us know this well in advance and that a family member who lives locally would be there to meet him. They were there and gone very quickly, not a disturbance at all. The area is very scenic and there's lots to do. We went gem mining at Rose Creek Mine and did the waterfall tour along Rt 64 heading towards Highlands. Dry Falls is not dry, but you don't get too damp walking behind the waterfall. It's worth the visit, trust us! There's a picnic spot on the Cullasaja River that has a path leading down to the water where the rocks are smooth and perfect for sunbathing and wading in the river. Take a swimsuit! We also went off the beaten path on some forestry roads and had fun adventures in the woods. We recommend the view from Wayah Bald lookout tower. The T.M. Rickman General Store (just a mile or two from the cabin) is a great step back in time with live bluegrass music by local musicians on Saturday afternoons. If you like art and pottery, we suggest visiting potter Brian Davenport at Cowee Mountain Clay at the corner of Rt 441 and Sanderstown Road. Thank you for a great week in the mountains!
